Scott
Summerhays
President & CEO
Scott earned a master's degree in business administration from the University
of Utah, where he earned several academic awards, including Dean's Scholar.
He worked negotiating labor contracts and consulting to arts organizations
before returning to the music industry. Scott, along with his wife Jill,
enjoys snow skiing, water skiing, and hacking around the golf course.

Laurel
Summerhays
Vice President
Laurel joined Summerhays Music Center leaving
the banking industry where she worked in the
Professional Management and Bankcard areas. She
earned a Masters of Business Administration degree
from the University of Utah. She loves to visit
her daughter who lives in Maui and enjoys golfing
and snorkeling. |
Briant
Summerhays
Briant founded Provo Music Center DBA Summerhays
Music in Orem 1969. Briant holds an Accounting
Degree from BYU. He has served on the Board
of Directors
of the National Association of Music Merchants
for a total of 9 years. Briant co-founded
and is treasurer of the International Foundation for Music
Research. He also helped to raise the
original grant funds for the Music Makes
You Smarter Research Program. Briant
served on the Real-estate Committee of
National Association of Music Merchants.
Briant also was the Director International
Foundation for Music Research for twelve
years. Briant is a co-founder of Accent
Music Instruments and Accessories. He is the
USA Sales and Marketing Manager for Gerhard
Baier Brass winds, and the Marketing
and Sales Consultant Brodmann Piano Group.
Briant is mildy addicted to snow skiing, water skiing, golf & Dr.
Pepper. |
Cris
Behrens
Manager
Cris has worked for Summerhays Music Center since 1992. He earned a degree
in band instrument repair from Red Wing Tech College, and spent the first
5 years with Summerhays repairing instruments. He now is our Sales Manager.
Cris has attended UVSC for business and accounting classes, and enjoys
watching & playing basketball, snorkeling, boogie boarding & surfing
in his spare time.

Brent
Taylor
Pro Strings Consultant
Brent Taylor works as a Professional Strings Consultant at Summerhays
Music Center. Additionally he is a string clinician/educator and one
of the organizing members of the Utah Valley Youth Symphony Orchestra.
When he is not making beautiful music with his beloved
orchestras, or selling instruments at the music store,
he enjoys playing with his dog and working for the betterment
of mankind. In his better, younger years, when he was much
thinner and had more hair he received a Bachelor of Music
Degree from Brigham Young University. Mr. Taylor also plays
the cello, which is considered by many to be the purest
form of musical interpretation.
In his looming retirement he plans to be a bush pilot
in the Amazon Jungle.

Dan
Gidney
Accessories Manager
Dan came to Summerhays Music Center in 1999 after
Teaching K-12 Music in Idaho. He earned a music education
bachelors degree from Utah State University. Dan grew up
in playing trumpet but switched to Euphonium. One of his
favorite experiences with the Euphonium has been attending
Tuba Euphonium conferences, in Chicago and Minneapolis.
Dan has played and marched with many groups throughout
his life including school and municipal bands. Dan currently
stays active in music by playing with the Murray Concert
Band and by attending concerts in which his wife and children
are performing.

Steve
Bauman
Combo Manager
Steve has worked for Summerhays since 2007. He brings with
him over 12 years of musical experience, beginning with
trumpet & piano, then finally
moving into guitar & electric bass. He atteneded the University of
Utah with an emphasis in Jazz performance on the electric bass. He's been
involved in several professional recording & performance groups throughout
Utah, and continues to perform in the area regularly. He also teaches guitar & bass
lessons to many aspiring musicans in the Salt Lake valley.

Christian
Rapp
String Technician & Renovator
Christian was born in Germany and began playing the violin at the age
of 5, continuing lessons until he was 15, then switching to classical
guitar. Years of High School Orchestra, Jazz Group, Blues Band and several
performances gave him inspiration for what the musical world has to offer. After a specialization in English and Music in High School,
he attended Wood Carpentry School which showed him that his
real interest was to be found in the making of wooden string
instruments. He studied an apprenticeship in the making and
restoring of Classical Guitars and musical instrs.in general,
in Xalapa, Ver., Mexico. After getting married, he earned
a BA degree in Restoration at the National School for Conservation,
Restoration and Museum Studies, living, teaching and working
in Mexico City for many years, with his own Luthier shop.
He was then invited to work for Summerhays Music Center which
opened a new chapter for him and his family, becoming finally
residents in 2007 and finding a new home in Utah. Christian lives in Murray with his wife, son and a cat.
He enjoys bike riding, music, good veggie food and playing
classical guitar.

Myroslava
Hawryluk
Education Representative
A native of Minnesota, Myroslava began studying
music from her earliest years including the violin at age
five and the clarinet at age twelve.
Myroslava holds degrees from Concordia College in Moorhead,
Minnesota and The University of Utah and is currently ABD
from the University of Arizona pursuing a Doctorate of Musical
Arts in clarinet performance with a minor in Music Librarianship
from the School of Information Resources and Library sciences.
Myroslava lives in Salt Lake City with her fiancé and
three dogs. She also maintains
a clarinet studio and is a member of the Utah Wind Symphony.

Jeff
Counts
Education Representative
Jeff Counts graduated from the University of South
Florida in 1994 with a degree in Music Education. After
working for six years in the Hillsborough County (Florida)
Public Schools as an Elementary Music Specialist, Jeff
spent the next decade in symphony administration, including
a 5-year stint as Vice President of Artistic Operations
with the Utah Symphony. Throughout his life as an educator
and arts manager, he has also maintained an active freelance
career as a horn player. Jeff and his wife Hillary tried
to move away from Utah last year but returned after only
10 months away. They now realized how much they love it
here and have decided to stay forever.

Shane
Deuel
Director of Education Services
Shane Deuel was born and raised in West Michigan, and his musical career
started with the trumpet in 6th grade band. After receiving a degree in
Music Education from Western Michigan University, he decided to go into
the music industry, and became the advertising sales manager for The Instrumentalist
magazine in Chicago. Soon after, Shane became involved with the startup
website for band directors, www.banddirector.com. The mountains and fresh
powder of Utah lured Shane and his wife out of Chicago in 2004, and they're
here to stay. Shane started with Summerhays Music Center in 2004 as an
education representative, a position he held for 6 years, and now serves
all of Northern Utah as the Director of Education Services. He also teaches
many private trumpet lessons.

Bruce
Woodward
Education Rep
Bruce Woodward has been involved in various aspects of the music business
for over 30 years. As a french horn player, Bruce has performed and recorded
with the Utah Symphony, appeared as a horn soloist on tour with the Mormon
Tabernacle Choir, recorded for film, network, and religious broadcasts.
He is also a sought after clinician and adjudicator. As an educator, Bruce
has taught instrumental music in the public schools in Arizona and Utah
and is currently on the adjunct instrumental faculty at Snow College, while
also maintaining a large horn studio in the Salt Lake area. He was presented
the special "Outstanding Service To Music Education Award" at
the annual Utah Music Educator's Association's Convention in 2004.Bruce
has enjoyed a career as a school music representative of the past 26 years.
His association with the Summerhays family has been very fulfilling because
of the fact that the company is always on the cutting edge of the best
musical products and services- not only in the U.S., but throughout the
world. As a result, Bruce has been able to confidently service his customers
with all of their musical needs. |
Jenny
Bauman
Marketing Manager
Jenny joined Summerhays Music Center in 2006. She brings with her over
15 years of Marketing and Advertising experience. She has produced marketing
campaigns for Retail, Education & Real Estate clients, among many others.
Her designs have been seen in print & web advertising across the state
of Utah. Jenny attended the University of Utah with an emphasis in Graphic
Design, and plays the Violin, Guitar, and Dulcimer - but really wants to
learn to play the banjo. Jenny enjoys creating art, photography, the outdoors,
and spending time with her husband & two cats in her free time.

Don
Johnson
Sales Associate
Don has worked for Summerhays Music since 2003. He previously worked for Eckroth
Music in Billings Montana for 7 years. Don was born and raised in Colorado where
he earned a degree in Business and a minor in music from the University of Northern
Colorado. Don specializes in the woodwinds but is well versed in all of the brass
family as well. (Don enjoys losing hair, gaining weight and getting older). He
enjoys canoeing in the mountain lakes, fielding training his Welch Springer Spaniel
and mosaic woodworking. |
