Last weekend, April 15th, we held our 8th Annual Hands-On
Contest. 111 music-lovers showed up and put
their hands on an instrument case in an attempt to win a
Professional brass or woodwind instrument. The last person
to keep their hands on, won! The contest ended 39 hours later,
with the winner being Levi Lundgreen, who won a
Yamaha Alto Sax! The runner up was Kadelyn Egan,
who won a Yamaha Flute. You can see photos from the event
in our Facebook
Hands-On Photo Gallery. We also were featured on Channel

Hands-On
2009
Hand's On Contest was a huge success this year! We
had a record 137 contestants this year, which is more than we've
ever had in the past. Everyone showed up Friday night the 24th,
and all at once put their hands on a Trumpet or Sax case.
This year the contest went until 4:20 a.m. on Sunday! Congrats
to our winners:
For the Saxophones, 2nd place Sax was
Natalie Astill, who got out Saturday afternoon. (She was the
last remaining “kid” playing
for sax, so she automatically won an instrument.) The final sax
players were all adults, and at 4:20 am Sunday the two remaining
sax contestants struck a deal to split the grand prize, and they
both ended up leaving with a student model alto saxophone. Those
two winners (1st place tie for sax) were Taylor Haase and Kevin
Hutson.
For the Trumpets, at 4:15am the two remaining
contestants also struck a deal… and instead of a grand
prize and second prize, they both left with a Yamaha YTR4335GS
Intermediate trumpet.
Those two winners (1st place tie for trumpet) were Lori McClure
and Courtney Taylor.

and folk workshop.
Thanks to Patrick, Carlton and Aaron! You did an excellent job

2008
Congratulations
to our Hands-On Contest Winners!
Thanks to everyone who participated in this years Hands-On Contest! This years
prizes were from Yamaha, and were worth over $7000!
Exactly 99 participants
showed up for the contest, which began at approximately 6:30pm
on Friday the 25th. Contestants
had to keep all 10 fingers on their Trumpet or Sax case to stay
in the competition. They were allowed helpers to feed them, and
were given a 10 minute break every six hours. Contestants sat
next to a Trumpet or Sax case on the floor, and remained that
way through the night. By Saturday morning, about 40 contestants
were still "standing". At about 10am on Saturday they
were allowed to transition into chairs, holding the cases on
their laps. The competition went on this way, and Contested slowly
fell out of the competition one by one, until it ended Sunday
the 27th at 2:30 a.m.
Our winners were real troopers - they
held on for over 32 hours (with no sleep)!
The winners are: Colton Hanks (1st Place
Sax), Ron Naylor (2nd Place Sax),
Stephenie Smith (1st Place Tie for Trumpet) and

Congratulations to our winners, and thanks
